Their lineup completed in 2014, Jupiter, FL-based band The Helmsmen began their foray into original music with “The Homework EP” in June 2015. The following year, they released “Midterm,” a 6-song ep featuring the singles “Rollercoaster” and “Ankles,” to a packed house at the Kelsey Theater in Lake Park, FL.

Not one genre could adequately define their sound, a uniquely south-floridian amalgam of indie, rock, surf, and folk music.

The helmsmen are: Jesse Glendinning: lead vocals, ukulele | Derek Campbell: guitar, saxophone | Jacob Constantakos: guitar | Micko Paparo: bass | Samuel King: drums

Following in the steps of other newgrass revivalists, Uproot Hootenanny has influences from bluegrass, country, folk, and jam music, while uniquely incorporating Celtic instrumentals and ballads into their sound.

Uproot Hootenanny has been playing to crowds since 2007, primarily between Key West and Vero Beach, Florida. The band plays several local festivals, as well regional music festivals, including the Suwanee Springfest, Virginia Keys Grassroots Festival, Hickory Fest, South Florida Folk Festival, South Florida String Fest, Bay Jam Music Festival, Farm to Family Festival, and Open Grass Festival. Uproot Hootenanny tours Ireland annually, and has shared the stage with Hermitage Green and opened for the Charlie Daniels Band.

On their latest record, the four-piece folk/bluegrass band stays true to the genre through heavy jam sessions and whiskey dreams. Raucous tracks like ‘Twisted Riff’ and ‘Lucy and Stynes’ go full blown jam with a funky bass line laying down a solid foundation for the fiddle to shine through. Whether it’s just one shot or the entire bottle, Uproot Hootenanny are the perfect accompaniment to a good ole’ fashioned time.

The Lubben Brothers is an acoustic, newgrass group made up of triplet brothers, Michael, Tom, and Joshua and their wives Karol, Shana Terra, and Katie (respectively). The brothers specialize in tight vocal harmonies, and the band uses a unique blend of folk instruments including banjo, cajon, mandolin, accordion, tin whistle, and fiddle. Classically trained at a young age, their modern compositional style incorporates folk roots with complex pop ideas.

The Lubben Brothers have performed at venues such as the Meyer Amphitheater in concert with Barbara Padilla, The Gardens Hockey Arena in Warroad, MN, and have sung their arrangement of The Star Spangled Banner for Palm Beach Atlantic University's American Free Enterprise Day. Music from their two albums has aired on radio stations in Iowa, Minnesota, and Florida, including an exclusive interview on NPR's “Folk and Acoustic Music” (WLRN 91.3, Miami). They are currently working on an EP, "Finding Home."
