Every January since 1912, over a half million visitors enjoy 17 fun filled days at the South Florida Fair, one of Florida’s oldest and largest community events. Fairgoers are entertained by first class stage shows, live concert performances, sensational midway rides, unique shopping and the best fair food. The 2026 annual Fair - January 16-February 1, 2026 will be a Party with the Pirates!Pirates often designed their own flags during the early 18^th century, and these flags were intended to communicate their identity, their intentions, and sometimes even their fearsome reputation. While the skull and crossbones is the most iconic symbol of piracy, many notorious pirates developed their own variations of the "Jolly Roger" (the general term for a pirate flag today). These unique designs helped establish the pirate captain's reputation and could be used as a kind of "calling card".

Each participating school will be provided with the shape to decorate for display at the Fair. Please decorate both sides and decorate with a lightweight material when possible as the projects will be displayed from the ceiling in the main exposition center for the 17 days of the Fair.

Winning projects will be selected by fairgoers. Each category – Elementary, Middle and High School – will be awarded a 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place cash award. An overall “Stellar Art” cash award will be selected by a panel of judges during the Fair.

First Place: $200 each
Second Place: $100 each
Third Place: $50 each
Golden Brush Award: $300

MATERIALS SUPPLIED

One 3’ x 4’ - 1/2” thick heavy-duty matte-finish foam board pre-cut shape.

PICK UP AND DROP OFF INFORMATON

Materials can be picked up by the schools at the Fairgrounds, September 24 & 25 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. (arrangements can be made for special pickup)

NOTE: Drop off details will be emailed to you. Drop off should be before you leave for winter break. Exact date to be determined.

My school is interested in participating in the “PARTY WITH THE PIRATES” theme at the South Florida Fair.
